Rise and shine ladies! Today’s gorgeous offering comes courtesy of the talented Bruna Sanches from Simply Lace Photography. An inspirational, creative and relaxed wedding perfectly planned by Rachel and Chris on a beautiful 4 acre property. The evergreen trees, a small red barn, a pond, and a breathtaking landscape were the perfect backdrops for the couple’s stunning portraits.
Even though Rachel never thought she had the wedding gene in her, she and Chris nailed an oh-so-laid-back DIY wedding! The adventurous bride, groom and dear friends took months of late nights preparing for the big day that would take 2 days to set up. In the end, all the hard work paid off for sure!
From Rachel: “At around 9:00 pm the night before, a crazy storm blew in, with torrential downpour and soaring winds. We got extremely lucky, but there were some things that got ruined. Right up to the last minute, myself, and my girls were re-doing signs and fixing small details the morning of. It continued to rain until around 12:00pm the day of. Finally the sun came out, and it was truly a perfect day.
As I put on my Vera Wang dress, from Davids bridal, and held my bouquet, put together by a florist at our local Sobeys grocery store, I was anxious to see my husband for the first time that day. The first look was done out by the barn and the pond, for which I am very grateful we decided to do. It was a very stressful morning trying to get things finished and have everything running on time. It wasn’t until I saw my husband, that I was able to relax for the first time in days. I could feel the weight of everything lift right off of me. It was as though nothing else mattered. It was an extremely intimate moment for the two of us, one that our photographer, Bruna Sanchez, at Simply Lace, captured very well. ”
“As guests arrived, there was a DIY sign welcoming them to the Edwards Wedding, as well as another DIY sign indicating the location of events to follow. We had the ceremony set up in the front yard, with bales of hay for seating, with two back rows of assorted antique white chairs for our older relatives. The hay was covered with white sheets, with burlap bows at the end. The aisle was lined with sheppards hooks with hanging mason jars painted yellow, then sanded to give it an older look, filled with baby’s breath. The arboror was put together by my sister in laws father, with some old wood they had around. It was drapped with a white chiffon material, which blew softly in the wind. A very close friend of ours played the acoustic guitar as we walked down the aisle. It was a very intimate and personal ceremony, with our own vows being read, and the Groom crying for the third time ever!”
“The cocktails were in large mason jar dispensers, with hand made rustic wooden frames with their names and ingredients. The kegs of beer were held in a small, very old white wooden boat, filled with ice. All beverages were enjoyed using their own personal mason jar, with chalkboard stickers with their names on them. The Groom hand made the bar out of scrap pallet wood and barn board for the top.
The reception took place under a large white tent with cathedral windows. Dinner was a pig that had been roasting on site for 5 hours, then served buffet style for dinner, which was absolutely mouth watering. Once the speeches finished, our guests changed out of their wedding attire and into their comfy’s to keep warm. There was a large bon fire lit throughout the night, with the guests cooking Smores over the flames! Couples were smuggled into muskoka chairs by the fire, while others danced the night away! ”
“Doing a DIY was a bigger undertaking than I could have ever imagined. It was months of work and planing, and many nights up until the wee hours of the morning working on projects. But once seeing it come together, I can honestly say it was worth every bit of stress that came along with it. If I didn’t think I had the wedding gene in me before this adventure started, I quickly proved myself wrong. Everything turned out exactly as I had envisioned in my mind. It was the most perfect day, with the man of my dreams, and our closets friends and family. It is a day that I wish I could re-live over and over!”
Congrats to Rachel and Chris!
