What did you envision when you started designing wedding gowns?
When I was looking for my own wedding dress I found it difficult to find dresses that incorporated my own style. I wanted a dress that was different….A dress no one would forget.
What excites you most about your design process?
It’s helping to create a moment for our brides where time stops for them…when they put their dress on that memory stays with them….they feel their most beautiful, the dress reminds them of the love they share with their partner…and highlights all of the hope they have for the future. It is more than just a dress.
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your Spring 2015 collection and describe the bride that would wear it?
The Spring 2015 collection is inspired by and named after the many heartfelt emotions felt by a bride on her most magical of days. This collection captures all the feelings of love, endearment and joy that are experienced when a bride and groom come together as one. The gowns in the collection feature delicate French laces, sumptuous silks and opulent embellishment, and are perfect for brides who want to look and feel like the most breathtaking and beautiful version of themselves.
If you had to choose, what would be your favorite dress?
This is a difficult question, as I love all of the gowns in the collection! But one of my favourite pieces is definitely our Lily gown. This gown has a silk faille bodice with contouring panels, so it is very flattering around a bride’s waist and hips. The tulle skirt is super feminine, and the beautiful floral detailing underneath is a subtle way to incorporate lace. This gown will guarantee that all eyes are on the bride on her special day!
What is your favorite wedding trend right now?
2015 brides are very lucky, as there are some amazing wedding trends around right now! Crop tops dominated the catwalks in 2014, and the trend is still going strong this year. Our stunning Moonflower gown is loved by brides and fashion editors alike, as the gown is modern but still very bridal. The skirt sits high on a bride’s waist, so it only shows a small amount of skin. This makes the gown very flattering and is an elegant way to wear the trend.
Chic separates are definitely huge this season. Our Bliss Playsuit set features interchangeable skirts which a bride can alternate between during the wedding. This fabulous trend allows a bride to match their gown to the different stages of their special day. Plus, it will totally surprise their guests on the dance floor when they reveal the beautiful Chantilly lace playsuit underneath all the layers of tulle!
In terms of styling, can you reveal your top three tips for brides-to-be?
My first tip would be to have fun and experiment with different bridal accessories, as this the only time you will wear them! I find that bolder accessories like our ‘Flower Veil’ for example, work well with more minimalist gowns. This allows the veil to be the statement piece, and keeps the overall look chic and stylish. Although, I think there is no right or wrong when it comes to styling your gown, as long as it makes you feel beautiful that is all that matters!
My second tip would be to choose a style of gown that you feel comfortable in, and that is true reflection of your personal style. If a bride’s everyday style is quite feminine then a gown with embellishment like our Farrah gown, would be a beautiful option. On the other hand, our slim line gown like Bella would suit brides with a more relaxed style. If you feel happy and confident in your wedding gown it will show through, and you will glow on your special day!
Also, don’t be afraid to personalize your dress so that it suits your style. At Elizabeth Stuart we pride ourselves on tailoring a gown so that it completely matches a bride’s vision. This can be something small like altering a sleeve length or removing a train altogether. We love being a part of the process to help a bride in creating the wedding dress of their dreams.
Is there a piece of advice you give to brides when looking for a wedding dress?
I think it’s best to try and be open-minded when trying on gowns for the first time. I always encourage my brides to try on a gown that they wouldn’t have initially chosen. If you envision yourself in an elegant, slim line gown then try on a dramatic fishtail or romantic princess gown. There is no harm in playing dress up, and it’s a great way to have fun experimenting with different styles! You never know, you may even find the dress of your dreams in the process. . .
Finally, how would you describe your everyday style?
Classic and timeless….with a modern twist. For my designs as well, I love to take traditional elements like the beautiful tailored top of Moon Flower and incorporate it into a crop top design allowing the bride to have the best of both worlds.
