So this past weekend, I went to the Jazz Age Lawn Party in Governor’s Island, which is a New York City’s original prohibition era inspired gathering. Imagine dramatic Gatsby’s outfits, cheeky cocktails, great live orchestra music, and… my favourite part: Pie recipe contest!
Guess who submitted a pie? This chick! Oh, boy, was I excited to bake my pie the morning of! It was a heavenly Peach Blackberry Pie with a flaky crust, nom nom nom!
By the time I delivered my pie to the judges it was already the last call and I was pie #32… (insert bummed face right here!) All my hopes and dreams of winning the contest were “finito”, there was no way my pie was going to be chosen by the judges! Not after looking at all the scrumptious pies sitting on the table… Well, I was so wrong! I can proudly say that my pie was the winner of the “Hobo’s choice” category (so yummy that a hobo would want to steal it while it was cooling on a windowsill) yay! You have no idea how happy I was that day! And I bet the pies looked so yummy because of how they were framed, my friend told me she says some lovely arch rentals around the area that really tied the place together.
Anyway, now you know where the inspiration for this post is coming from 😉
Let’s get started by saying that in the “Pie World” there are no limits! You can get creative and have pie cake towers, lovely bookshelves filled with fresh-out-of-the-oven-pies, little mini pies stack up on cute vintage wooden trays, pie pops, and how about savoury pies for a change! Who says you can’t cut your cake for entree or appetizer, huh?
